This mod gave me my first experience in basic modding - simple file replacement. ThereвЂ™s an addictive terror in being chased by a tiny little Yoda that tries to befriend you before exploding in your face. ThereвЂ™s something eerily fascinating about running from a friendвЂ™s Yoda-looking rocket thatвЂ™s yelling at you with a Yoda-sounding voice. The novelty of all this took a surprisingly long time to wear off. Still a better pastime than sitting in a swamp down on Dagobah.

Instead of a crowbar, you hold a Yoda by the legs and use his face to beat your enemies to death. Even the default melee weapon is replaced. Yodas who walk, talk, groan, spout philosophy, and try to bite you and/or explode. Now imagine that almost none of your weapons use regular ammunition, but instead shoot out Yodas. Imagine an adrenaline-filled death-match in an arena with alien-membrane launch pads, perilous drops, and unpredictable adversaries. Below are three of my all-time favorites. They were ideal additions to our adolescent game collections on account of the fact that they were free, they showed incredible variety, and they were almost guaranteed to run on any computer that could handle the base game.

It had been passed back and forth between friends, each taking a file or two for their own collection or adding something new. The folder had been created in the dark years before Steam, and it was a little container of magic. ItвЂ™s a little bit like the ghost system featured in Dark Souls.For over a decade I had a very well-loved folder on my computer. Put simply, each player is playing through their own version of the game, only now they can see each other in real-time.

According to the development team, player two is unable to interact with the host playersвЂ™ world the interactions arenвЂ™t synched. Unfortunately, the mod comes with several major limitations. Player two is represented as a City Scanner, one of the in-game enemies featured throughout the campaign. The mod works by tracking a playersвЂ™ head position and rotation and sending that information to the host game as a second player.

That being said, wouldnвЂ™t be nice if you had a companion to keep you company on your journey? A group of modders (DerkO, Lyfeless, 2838, Kube, and more) certainly agree, so much so the team developed a new mod that introduces multiplayer support to ValveвЂ™s record-breaking VR game, albeit with a catch.ДЄvailable now as a free download, alyx-multiplayer allows players the opportunity to experience the entirety of the HL:A campaign alongside a buddy, sort of.
